      understanding inheritance – why get inherit different traits, like eye colour, height, or certain illnesses, like diabetes from our parents? how they run in families? and understanding genetics.

      I think when I went to uni, I realised that by being a scientist you have the opportunity to discover new things on a regular basis and that really excited me.

      I’ve always been interested in how the human body works, and how all your genes shape you. When I was at uni I got into studying medical biochemistry – so what happens when your genes get mutated and how this leads to disease. This (and the fact like most of us people close to me have suffered with cancer) lead to be doing a PhD in cancer research
