• Question: What do you hope to get from your research? Do you think it is important enough that it overrules the ethical concerns of the general public when it comes to researching genes?

I think ethical rules are very important, as they ensure a certain safety within research. So I don’t really think that ethical reasoning should be overruled. I would probably be a bit irritated if a law kept me from finding out something I believed to be significant, but I think that the ethical basis for it would hopefully be logical enough for me to be acceptable.

      Hey cherryred,

I hope to help people with my research! I think the ethical concerns of the general public are very important….for animal especially we have to go through quite extensive ethical review….this is a panel of people who are scientists and members of the public, who look over our research and decide whether is breaches any ethics. I do think that some of the concerns the public have come from a lack of understanding and that is where it is really important that we learn how to communicate our research in a way that a non-scientist can understand!

Nice question! From my research, I hope to find the genetic influences on cognition. I think it’s important to understand this for the sake of understanding biology and also for understanding when cogntiive abilities, such as memory, reading and thinking go wrong.

I hope to contribute to a better understanding of cancer and better cancer drugs.

I don’t think any reserach is important enough to overcome ethical concerns – it should all be properly debated and regulated
