Hi auksev! This is quite a tough question to answer, as I’m probably biased. If you like being able to research your own ideas and feel strongly about what you’d like to look at, being the head of the lab would be best. If you just want to do research and aren’t too bothered if your ideas are looked into, you can become a research assistant or associate.
Personally, I’ve become really interested in public awareness of science, so stuff like “I’m a scientist, get me out of here”, because I’m really passionate about science and I’d like to get other people to feel the same way.
Are you considering becoming a scientist?

Good question actually! I really like my job – researching and telling people about my research! And the best thing about my job is the people that I work with who are really good fun and the places I go to tell about my research. A few months ago I was in Hawaii (surfing!) and last year I was in Japan (singing Karaoke!). I have lots of friends who do exciting “science” jobs too – such as counting the max amount of M&Ms you can fit in a box, counting sheep in remote Scottish Islands or looking at how fruitflies mate!

      Hey auksev,
It really depends on what you like! I personally love being a researcher. Every day is different because every result answers an unaswered question….and leads to more questions! It’s an exciting, interesting job to have. BUT if you don’t want to go down the researcher path there are 1000s of other opportunities. I personally think science journalism would be pretty cool, but I love writing. Genetic councilling would also be quite cool, using your knowledge of genetics to help people make decisions about starting families. You could also work for companies who develop new technologies for scientists to use….these technologies can be amazing, not only making our jobs easier, but helping to get better results.

I really don’t know. I think that the ‘best’ job would be different for each individual.
I think it would beone where you could work on an interesting topic as part of a large well funded team.
