I think all scientists are equally deserving of the money, as the ways they will be using it will go towards communicating science.

Ooooh, thats a tricky question! I can’t talk about the other scientists because I’ve never met them and I like the sound of all of their research.

But, I think cancer research is worth funding because it affects so many people (1 in 3 people in their lives will get cancer) so the possible impact if we can design better treatments is huge.

Understanding cancer better does also help us to understand better how our bodies work, as when basic processes in our cells (such as the repair of broken DNA) goes wrong thats how you can develop cancer.

So cancer research gives you both better disease understanding and treatments, and better understanding of basic biology!

If I got the money I’d be able to go to a conference and talk to lots of other scientists and get ideas of how to do better science.

      Hey Paigeevans,

I don’t think I do deserve the money more than the other scientists…..I think we all have very cool ideas about how to use it!!!

I think it’s really important for students to know what a scientist is like – what kind of work they do, what the life is like, is it really exciting or just boring? and I think this chat is really good, BUT I think to meet in person would be much better.
